Northern Heritage Trio

The three things the north is known for, one a day: the capital on foot, Ha Long Bay by cruise, and the karst waterways of Trang An by sampan.

Overview

The journey

Two UNESCO World Heritage Sites in three days, with Hanoi in between. Day one is the capital on foot: the Temple of Literature, Tran Quoc Pagoda on West Lake, Hoan Kiem, the thirty-six guild streets, and an egg coffee somewhere up a staircase.

Day two is the bay — out on the expressway, six hours aboard, Sung Sot Cave, kayaks at Luon Cave and the climb up Ti Top — and back to the same Hanoi hotel. Day three runs south to Ninh Binh for Hoa Lu, two hours on a sampan through the limestone caves at Trang An, and the five hundred steps up Mua Cave, before the airport.

Pace
Full. Three long days with the same hotel each night, so nothing has to be repacked.
Best for
A first trip north with limited time and no appetite for wasted days.

Good to know

Questions

Is a day cruise enough for Ha Long?

It covers the same caves and islands. What it does not give you is the bay at dawn, which is why we also run the overnight version. If your dates allow a night aboard, take it.

Can the order of the days change?

Yes. The sequence of sights can shift with weather, traffic or opening hours, but the full list of included sights stays the same.

How are children charged?

Children aged 10 and over are charged the full rate. Children aged 9 and under are charged 75 percent of the rate, and children under 3 travel free of charge.

Can you cater for allergies or dietary needs?

Yes. Tell us what you avoid when you book and we will brief the restaurants on the route and choose suitable dishes.
