Overview

The journey

Three days is the shortest version of the south that does not feel like a checklist. Day one takes the city's landmarks — the Reunification Palace, the Central Post Office, Notre-Dame — and then the Cu Chi tunnels in the afternoon, which is the pairing most people want and few itineraries get right.

Day two drives down to My Tho and on to Can Tho, with the river and the islets in between, and day three starts early on a boat to the Cai Rang floating market before the run back to the city. There is a shorter two-day version that turns round at the delta instead of going on to Can Tho.

Pace
A city day, a driving day and an early morning. Two hotels, one in each place.
Best for
A first look at southern Vietnam that covers the war history, the city and the river.

Highlights

  • The Reunification Palace, the Saigon Central Post Office and Notre-Dame Cathedral
  • The Cu Chi tunnels, the bunkers and the traps
  • A Mekong cruise through the islets out of My Tho
  • A night in Can Tho and its riverfront
  • Cai Rang floating market, visited early enough to be worth it

Good to know

Questions

Is there a shorter version?

Yes — a two-day, one-night version that does the city and the tunnels on day one and the Mekong on day two, without going on to Can Tho. You lose the floating market. Ask us for that quote if three days is one too many.

Can the order of the days change?

Yes. The sequence of sights can shift with weather, traffic or opening hours, but the full list of included sights stays the same.

How are children charged?

Children aged 10 and over are charged the full rate. Children aged 9 and under are charged 75 percent of the rate, and children under 3 travel free of charge.

What do you need from us to confirm the trip?

A list of everyone travelling with full names, passport photos and gender, so hotels and any domestic flights can be booked.
