Overview
Five days is what the north wants. Bai Dinh, the largest Buddhist complex in Southeast Asia, gets a morning instead of an hour; Trang An gets its full boat ride; the bay gets a night; and Hanoi gets two separate passes, so the city you arrive in is not the only version of it you see.
The last two evenings are the point. Day four comes off the boat and into a street food walking tour — bún chả, phở, bánh mì, chè — and day five finishes at the Museum of Ethnology and Dong Xuan Market before the airport.

Airport pick-up and lunch. Tran Quoc Pagoda, the Temple of Literature and Hoan Kiem Lake, then a Hanoi egg coffee in the Old Quarter. Dinner and the first night in the city.

Day 2, Ninh Binh
South for the day. An electric car tour of the Bai Dinh Pagoda complex, a buffet lunch, the Trang An boat cruise through the water caves, and the climb up Mua Cave. Back to Hanoi for dinner.

Day 3, Ha Long Bay
Check out and east on the expressway. Aboard the cruise with a seafood lunch, then Sung Sot Cave and the beach at Ti Top Island. A sunset party, a cooking demonstration and dinner. Overnight in your cabin.

Day 4, Ha Long Bay and Hanoi
Tai chi, then kayaks at Luon Cave and brunch aboard on the way back to harbour. Disembark and transfer to the Hanoi hotel. In the evening, a street food walking tour: bún chả, phở, bánh mì and chè. Overnight in Hanoi.

Day 5, Hanoi
Check out after breakfast. The Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, the One Pillar Pagoda and the Museum of Ethnology. Farewell lunch, a last walk through Dong Xuan Market, then the transfer to Noi Bai.
