Overview

The journey

The day trip to the delta turns round at Ben Tre. This one carries on to Can Tho, which is the whole point: Cai Rang floating market is a wholesale market, and by eight in the morning the serious trading is over.

Day one is the Tien River and the four islands — Dragon, Unicorn, Phoenix and Tortoise — an orchard, a bee farm, southern folk music in a fruit garden, a hand-rowed sampan down a water-coconut canal and a coconut candy mill, then an evening in Can Tho. Day two starts at five, on a boat through the Bassac tributaries to the market, with a rice-noodle workshop, a local house and a monkey bridge after it.

Pace
An early second morning in exchange for the only hour the market is worth seeing.
Best for
Anyone who found the one-day Mekong trip too brief, or wants the floating market properly.

Good to know

Questions

Is the 05:00 start really necessary?

Yes. Cai Rang is a wholesale market and the boats start thinning out after seven. Leaving the hotel at first light is the difference between seeing a market and seeing where one was.

Can the order of the days change?

Yes. The sequence of sights can shift with weather, traffic or opening hours, but the full list of included sights stays the same.

Can you cater for allergies or dietary needs?

Yes. Tell us what you avoid when you book and we will brief the restaurants on the route and choose suitable dishes.

What do you need from us to confirm the trip?

A list of everyone travelling with full names, passport photos and gender, so hotels and any domestic flights can be booked.
